ShastaNet is dedicated to ensuring that all residents of Shasta County can enter the Information Age. To that end, ShastaNet facilitates electronic access, content, and education for Shasta County and surrounding area. In co-operation with other agencies, ShastaNet helps coordinate electronic information for the community.

Access: To provide free (without charge) and widely available public access, via electronic connection within Shasta County, to a variety of public and private information services. To build new and to connect existing electronic networks.

Content: To offer a means for information providers to disseminate their material as widely and economically as possible, ShastaNet will develop and maintain a community web site that can serve as electronic "one-stop shopping" for the area. This web site will serve both the local population and the international community looking for information about "Shasta County."

Technology: To improve methods of information dissemination. To serve as a conduit and dissemination point for collaboration among the various technology users in the north state. To serve as a model for systems in other communities.

Connectivity: ShastaNet intends to distribute remote access to digital information concerning government, business, education, health, community, and recreational activities via public computers. ShastaNet does not intend to become an Internet Service Provider.

Information: Local government, health, recreational, leisure, educational, cultural, business, agricultural, environmental, and community safety information; self-help and low-cost, no-cost services. Business information will be carried for ShastaNet Business Members only.

Education: Through workshops, classes, and consultation, ShastaNet will educate the local community in the desirability and capabilities of telecommunications technology.
