REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Shasta County Arts Council, Shasta County, California

The Shasta County Arts Council seeks exhibition proposals for participation in the Old City Hall Gallery. Works representing both traditional and innovative approaches to the Visual Arts will be considered.

MEDIA :
All media will be considered. The Shasta County Arts Council reserves the right to determine suitability regarding:

method of presentation
content regarding that which may be determined "inappropriate" for public viewing.

ELIGIBILITY:
Majority of works to be exhibited must have been completed within the last two years. Artists may not hold a major show in Redding simultaneously.

APPLICATION REVIEW:
Applications (accepted throughout the year) are considered on a quarterly basis. Applications submitted with SASE of appropriate size will be returned by mail. Applications submitted without a return envelope cannot be returned. The Arts Council is not responsible for loss of or damage to slides.

ENTRY PROCEDURES:
Initial selection for a show is by submission of slides only. Artists must send the following to the Arts Council:

    $16  (two-person)   $20 (two-person)
    $25  (group)        $35 (group)

A current resume - typed
A brief artist's statement and description of work to be exhibited
Slides of 10 works of art (20 per group entry). These 35mm slides must be enclosed in a see-through plastic sleeve. Slides must be labeled with the word "top" in the upper right corner, name of artist in upper left, title, medium, and dimensions on bottom. Number and list slides from one to ten (see back of form).

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
Proposals will be considered on the professional level of:

Quality and content of artwork
Quality of application presentation
Contribution of artwork to a balanced yearly program with a wide variety of media

The following may also be considered: (1) Artists who have not shown locally in a similar context, and (2) Relation of art work to community events and/or special interests.

EXHIBITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Artwork accepted for exhibition must be READY FOR PRESENTATION (i.e., framed with appropriate hardware for hanging. Items requiring specific display instructions must be designated as such in proposal for consideration by the Gallery Director.) No piece may be withdrawn before the close of a showing.

FEES:
An exhibition fee of ____$35____(SCAC member)/___$60____(non-member) will be charged to help defray costs per exhibition.

REPRODUCTION:
For publicity purposes, the Arts Council reserves the right to photograph art works accepted for exhibit.

INSURANCE:
The Arts Council maintains fine art insurance coverage on the works displayed in Old City Hall for the duration of the exhibit. Insurance does not cover transport to or from Old City Hall.

The Shasta County Arts Council was established as a non-profit corporation in 1981 to promote artistic and cultural awareness and participation throughout the county. The Arts Council also manages and operates the Old City Hall Arts Center, which includes the Old City Hall Gallery, the upstairs Performance Center, a video facility, and classroom space downstairs.
